What is Norwich famous for? (노리치는 무엇으로 유명할까?)

사랑하는 엄마 아빠,

축구팬들을 제외한 한국인들에게 Norwich City 는 생소한 영국 지명 일것 같애. 그래서 노리치의 관광 명소들 혹은 유명한 사람이나 이름들을 잠시만 소개 할게. 

Except for some frantic Korean football fans, Norwich is a mystery for most Koreans. So I would like to introduce a little bit more about Norwich filtered through my own eyes, experiences, and limited knowledge. You may see some random comments here and there but that is because I find them very interesting and they are not necessarily outstanding features of Norwich.

먼저, 서두에서 언급했듯이 노리치를 연고로 하고 있는 Norwich City FC (Football Club) 으로 유명해. 영국인에도 우리나라처럼 축구팬들이 많거든. 수많은 축구 선수들과 그들의 이력을 잘 알고 나름의 지식을 바탕으로 논쟁 할 수 있는 이들이 꽤나 많고, 필자가 과거 런던에서 모 선사에서 일할때도 직장내 축구팬들이 많았던 것으로 기억해. 일과를 마치고 가끔씩 펍(pub: 호프집 개념)으로 가서 술 한잔씩 할때면 남자들 사이에 빠지지 않는 주제가 축구였던게 기억나. 이 주제가 선상에 떠오르면 흥분에 들떠 이야기 하던 직장 동료들이 떠오르는거 있지. 아래가 노리지 씨티 배지야. 최근 부진한 성적으로 지난 4월 8일 크리스 휴튼 감독을 경질하고 닐 애덤스에게 지휘봉이 넘어갔으나 그 효과를 아직은 보지 못하고 있다고 하네. 축구팬이 아닌 필자도 관심을 어느정도 가지게 될 정도로 이곳의 축구애는 대단한거 같어. 

Norwich is the hometown for Norwich City FC(Football Club). Just like Korea, there are many soccer fans in the UK. When I worked for a shipping liner in London 3~4 years back, I remember my colleagues talking about soccer players and teams with so much passion especially after having a few good pints at a pub after work. Below is Norwich City badge. Sadly, the team is not doing so well at the moment that they sacked Chris Hughton(former coach) for the team's erratic season performance and hired Neil Adams who has not proved his excellence as a competent coach yet. Good luck Norwich City FC!

다음으로,  성당,성,교회가 많은 곳으로 알려져 있다고 해. 나도 여기 저기 산책다니면서 교회들이 눈에 많이 띈다고 생각했어. 사진은 내가 직접 찍은 아가들로 추후에 올리도록 할게.

The city is also famous for its churches and castles. When I go for walks, I noticed them quite a lot around the city and they add great characters to the city I believe. I will upload more pics later for your viewing.

좀 엉뚱하긴 하지만, 콜맨 머스타드 기억나? 노리지는 이 머스타드의 고향이기도 해. 내가 전에 하나 사다 줬었는데 맛있게 잘 드시고 있나 모르겠네(아래 사진 첫번째). 이것 뿐만 아니라 내가 좋아하는 감자칩도 노리치에서 시작 되었는데 케틀칩(Kettle Chip)이라고 불려(아래 사진 두번째). 요 과자도 다음에 한국 들어갈때 사다 줄게~

I can't leave out Colman's mustard when talking about Norwich. The company started in Norwich and I somehow love the fact that Colman is from here. FYI, I like mustard but it is not like I would die without it. But as we all have strange and unexplanable obsessions for or interest in certain things, so do I.

There are a good variety of potato chips in Korea but it is hard to find good ones. Kettle chips are everything I have dreamt about chips. These babies are chunky, perfectly fried and properly seasoned. I believe if there is heaven for potato chips it will be the Kettle Chip factories.

 

이런 맛나는 음식 이외에도 자연 경관, 쇼핑, 교육, 문화 등에서도 여러모로 뛰어난 도시 인것 같애.

앞으로 이렇게 다양한 노리치 생활에 대해서 내가 조금씩 알아가듯이 엄마 아빠에게도 조금씩 보여 줄게.

Anyway, Norwich City has so much more to offer in terms of nature, shopping, education, and cultures and I will gradually familiarize you with this lovely city.
