웰스 별장으로의 여행 제 2일 (A mini break to Wells - Day 2 - Holkham Park)

사랑하는 엄마 아빠,

우리 짧은 5일 여행 중 제 2일은 '홀큼 공원' 으로 갔어. 이 공원은 '홀큼' 지역에 있는데 이 지역은 개인이 소유하고 있어. 우리가 있는 별장에서 20분정도 걸어가면 입구로 진입 할수 있어. 이 사유지의 부지가 2천4백만 평 정도이고 25개의 소작농장들(1천8백만평 가량)과 홀큼 영농회사에서 직접 관리하는 5백60만평 가량의 부지로 구성되어 있어. 광대하다고 할수 있지. 숫자에 약한 나로서는 잘 계산이 안되는 숫자야.

on our 2nd day, we went to Holkham Park in Holkham which is privately owned.

(Quote) Holkham has a total of 25 tenanted farms, made up of approximately 6,100 hectares, plus 1850 hectares that is farmed 'in-hand' by the Holkham Farming Company. (Unquote)

My brain can't calculate this kind of big figures so I just understand that Holkham is huge and privatel owned.

 

눈으로 보고도 쭉쭉 펼쳐지는 평평한 공간의 끝이 안보이드라구.이 사유지 안에 봉건제도가 그대로 살아 있는거 같아. 대표적 예로, 거대한 부지 안에 '홀큼홀'이라고 하는 거대한 저택이 있고, 참고로 이 건물은 '죽기전에 봐야할 세계 1001 건축물'이라는 책에도 소개되어 있어. 이 부지 안에는 호수, 사슴, 고슴도치, 오리, 등 각종 야생동물과 끝없는 초록의 나무와 식물들이 펼쳐지고. 뿐만아니라 이 안에 기념품 가게, 레스토랑도 있고 헌팅 할수 있는 부지도 있어. 그리고 지도에서 보다시피 바닷가로 연결 되기도 해서 짐작할수 있듯이 관광지로 아주 유명하고 영화 촬영지뿐만 아니라 웨딩 장소로도 인기가 많아. 여기서 키워진 소나 오리 등 가축은 이 지역에서 팔리고 소모되고 있다네.

I see this as the true legacy from the feudal era. Holkham has this famous Holkham Hall which is listed as one of the '1001 buildings you must see before you die' by Mark Irvings. I was amazed to see a beautiful lake with swans and ducks, and wild animals like deers running around surrounded by hundreds years old trees and beautiful flowers. Also there are restaurants, a little village, souvenir shop, and Adnams shop on the premises. All of these combined make Holkham as a popular destination for weddings, film shootings, and tours.

팔라디안 스타일(팔라디안 건축물: 팔라디오가 독자적으로 설계한 수많은 건출물들에서 나온 것으로 로마시대의 장엄하고 화려함에 직선을 도입하여 아름답고 우아하지만 간결함으로 대표된다)의 홀큼홀은 레스터의 백작 토마스 코크를 위해 지어졌고 그 이후 코크 가문에서 계속 살면서 유지 보수 작업 뿐만아니라 시대에 맞게 사업을 팽창 및 발전해 시키고 있는 것 같아.

Holkham Hall was constructed in the Palladian style for Thomas Coke, the first Earl of Leicester in the mid 18th century and this has remained within the Coke family since then. The Coke family has been maintaining this hall and is doing a great job to evolve the premises to cope with current times.

(간단한 점심 - Our simple & tasty lunch)

대파와 감자 스프, 치아바타빵, 그리고 사과 크럼블 케익 이었던거 같어.

I think it was leek and potato soup, ciabata bread, and a large slice of apple crumble cake! This shop is also owned by the Coke family.

(해변가의 레스토랑 - Restaurant near beach)

한국에 비해서 단음식이나 케익을 많이 먹게 되는거 같어. 눈에 보이는게 어떻게 손이 안가겠어!  

I can't resist the temptation of sweets because they are everywhere and are beautifully displayed!

(글로브 호텔에서의 저녁 - Dinner at the Globe Inn)

장장 5시간 정도를 홀큼공원에서 거닐다가 기대하던 글로브 호텔로 저녁식사를 하러 갔어. 이날 저녁이 우리 먹은 것들 중에서 하이라이트 였어. 이 호텔이 얼마전에 내부 공사를 해서 아래 사진과 같이 깔끔하고 모던하게 변했어.

After spending about 5 hours on our outing to Holkham, we went for dinner to the Globe Inn which I expected to be our highlight of food during our break. Below are pics of the renovated restaurant part. Cute, neat, white-beige, modern, and good lightings are my words for the the renovation.

 

(디저트 메뉴 - Pudding Menu)

[에피타이저 - 튀긴 채소, 후머스(병아리콩 으깬 것과 오일, 마늘을 섞은 중동 지방 음식), 화이트 와인 - 맛있고 메인 들어가기 전에 가볍게 먹기 좋더라구.]

(For appetizer, we had homemade hummus and fried vegetables which were very delicious. Of course a bottle of white wine as well.)

(남편은 오리 콩피와 팬 프라이한 닭가슴을 주재료로 한 메인을 주문했어. Chris had pan fried duck breast with confit of duck leg with potatoes in rhubarb sauce.)

(나는 메인으로 그릴 황새치, 폴렌타, 그리고 망고와 토마토 살사 민트를 주문했어. I had swordfish, polenta, and salsa of mago tomato mint.)

(디저트 - 둘이 나눠 먹었는데 트리오 디저트로 팬오코타, 초컬릿 브라우니, 크램뷜레를 먹었는데 포션이 작게 나와서 둘이 먹기 적당했어.)

(We shared a trio dessert of panna cotta, chocolate brownie, passion fruit creme brulee in small quantities so it was perfect to share between the two of us.)

매일이 오늘같기만 하면 천국이 따로 없으리라~ 엄마 아빠 사랑하고 즐거운 하루 보내세요.

If everyday is like this day, I am in heaven!
