영국 노리치 하늘(Norwich Gal)

사랑하는 엄마 아빠, 

어제는 결혼식 카나페 까지 사진 올리고 오늘은 그 이후 사진을 더 올려볼까 해. 

I uploaded pictures of the wedding day up to canape in the garden and I will upload more for what came next. 

정원에서 카나페와 담소를 나눈 후 다시 이층으로 올라가기 전이야. 

A couple more pictures before we went upstairs.

이건 정원에서 찍은 샷이야. 햇살도 너무 좋았고 웨딩홀도 너무 이쁘지? 

This is one from the garden. Isn't the sunshining garden gorgeous? And the wedding hall is so picturesque. 

여기는 정원이랑 연결되는 통로인데 본 건물에서 유리로 증축한 거 같아. This is from inside the hall where seems to have been built as an extension from the main building with glass wall and glass ceiling.  

다시 이층으로 갔더니, 저녁 식사 할 수 있도록 원탁 테이블로 다 셋팅을 바꾸어 놓았더라구. 그리구 신랑 신부 및 양가 부모님이 앉는 상석이 마력되어 있고 이쁘게 데코레이션까지 완료 되어 있었어. 

We went back upstairs for dinner and the staff have re-organized the hall by placing round tables and head table where bride, groom, and their parents would be seated with absolutely immaculate decorations.

각 원탁 테이블에는 이렇게 재치있게 신랑 신부 이름이 새겨진 엠엔엠 같은 초코볼이 들어 있는 작은 버킷으로 장식했어. 

The bride and groom came up with a very witty idea by placing this little white bucket full of M&M shaped and sized chocolate balls on each table.

그리고 각 테이블마다 자리 주인 이름이 적힌 이름표가 놓여있었어. 

Each table had name tags placed on them. 

곧이어 나오기 시작한 저녁 식사. 남편이 스리랑카계 영국인이고 남편쪽 하객들이 대부분 스라랑카 인들이기도 하고 인도음식을 좋아하는 문화이기도 해서 저녁 식사는 스리랑카 음식으로 준비가 되었어. 거의 인도 카레와 별로 다른건 없었던거 같아. 채소카레, 매운 양고기 카레, 감자 카레, 달 카레, 치킨 카레, 그리고 케일 카레 였어. 너무 맛있어서 두접시 후딱 먹어 치워버린거 있지.

Dinner was served including various kinds of Sri Lankan curries including vegetables, lamb, potatoes, dahl, chicken, and kale. All were so tasty and impressive. I could not help but having a second serving.

저녁 식사 후에 후식으로 각 테이블마다 미니 케익 스탠드가 서빙 되었어. 이클레어, 브라우니, 치즈케익 등 맛있는 케익들이 눈에 들어오니까 멈출수가 없더라. 크리스랑 나랑 둘이서 사진에 보이는 케익 와구와구 다 먹어 버렸어.

After dinner, three tier cake stand arrived on each table with mini eclairs, brownies, cheese cakes, etc. My hubby and I finished what you see between two of us. 

맛있는 후식 까지 먹고 신랑 신부는 홀을 돌면서 약간의 담소를 나누었지. 그리고 아래 사진에 길게 연결된 테이블 보이지? 거기가 홀의 앞부분이고 상석이야. 신랑, 신부, 양가 부모님들이 않는 자리야.

During and after the scrummy dinner, the bride and groom went around the hall to talk to guests.

신부 오빠와 신랑 누나가 축하글을 읽고, 

Bride's brother and groom's sister did their readings which were short and sweet,

신부 친구가 축하메시지를 전달하는데 유머 감각이 남다르셔서 다들 박장대소 했어.

and bride's friend conveyed his congratulatory words with great sense of humor and amused everyone in the hall. 

그리고, 전통적으로 신랑감이 일어나서 스피치를 하는데, 부모님께 감사드리고 선물을 드려. 그리고 신부 부모님께 감사드리고 선물을 드려. 시아버지는 시누이가 태어난 해의 빈티지 와인을 받으시고, 신랑 아버지는 축구 광팬이셔서 가문의 성과 결혼식 날짜가 적힌 빨간색 축구 티셔츠를 받으셨어. 한국과는 사못 다른 결혼식 풍습이다 그치?

 Traditionally, the groom makes a speech to thank his parents and bride's parents and presents them with gifts. My father in law received a bottle of vintage of wine which was born in the same year as my sister in law. Groom's father received a football jersey with his family name and the date of this wedding on it as he is a big fan of football. The wedding ceremony here is rather different from that of Korea's. Korean weddings are normally very short and formal and there are not any toasts or speeches involved. In Korea, inter-family gifts are exchanged before the wedding and the gifts can be a long list of things. 

이렇게 저녁 식사 및 축하 스피치를 끝내고 케익 커팅이 시간이 다가왔어. 아래 사진에 있는 케익이 우리 시어머니가 피땀흘려서 직접 만드신 케익이야. 하단은 빅토리아 스펀지 케익, 중간은 초컬릿 케익, 상단은 레몬 케익이야. 

After dinner and speeches/toasts, it was time for cake cutting. The wedding cake below is what my mother in law created over a couple of months. In Korean, we would say that this cake was created with her 'blood and sweats' meaning she worked very hard for it. The bottom tier is victoria sponge cake, middle chocolate cake, and the top is lemon flavored cake.

이제 댄스 타임이야. Time to dance! 

신혼 부부의 첫 댄스가 시작 되고, 

The newlyweds' first dance started.

아버지랑도 댄스 댄스~ Time for a dance with father!

남녀 노소 할것 없이 다들 춤 삼매경에 빠지셨어. 

Everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves dancing away. 

크리스 절친은 열심히 디제이 역할에 몰두 중. Jack deep in DJing mode.

이렇게 밥이 깊어가는지 모르도록 이야기하고 술마시고 먹으면서 자정까지 즐겼어.

Without acknowledging the deepening night, everyone drank, talked, laughed, ate, and enjoyed themselves in festive spirits.

자정이 되어서 시부모님 댁으로 돌아가서 술 한잔씩 더하고 새벽 두시 반쯤 파티는 끝이 났다고 해. 나는 피곤해서 조금더 일찍 가서 곯아 떨어졌구. 

At midnight, whoever remained at the venue went back to Cereal House for more celebration and the party ended at around 2 30 am. 

시누이 결혼식이라 의미가 크기도 했지만 준비과정 부터 시작해서 실제 결혼식 당일까지 함께 할 수 있었던 점과 그 기간동안 부풀어가는 설레임을 같이 경험 할 수 있었던 값진 경험 이었던거 같어. 

It was a meaningful day for me not only because it was not only my sister in law's wedding but also because it was the whole experience of excitement building up from the preparation to the actual day. 

암튼, 여기 까지가 영국 결혼식 이었어. 엄마 아빠 즐거운 하루 보내구~ 사랑합니다.

이제 결혼식 당일날에 대해 이야기 해 볼께. 

Moving on to D-Day! 

오후 2시부터 시작 되는 결혼식에 입고갈 옷차림 완료이야. 머리에 쓴거는 패시네이터라고 하는데, 머리에 장식으로 클립정도 라면 이해가 좀 쉬우려나. 과거에 여자들이 레이스로 만든 머리 장식을 쓴 데서 유래 한거래. 참고로 해티네이터라는 것도 있는데, 그건 패시네이터보다는 크고 모자보다는 작은 머리 장식품이래. 내가 쓴건 패시네이터로 촘촘한 레이스 같은걸로 제작 되었어. 

I got dressed for the wedding which commenced at 2 pm. I am wearing a fascinator borrowed from my mother in law(thank you!) and it is my first time to try this kind of head cover. I might have seen fascinators and hatinators in Korea but we do not have names for them apart from 'hats'.  

아침에 비가오고 흐려서 걱정 했는데 나중에 해가 쨍쨍 떳었어. 

It was raining and cloudy in the morning but the wedding was blessed with beautiful sunshine!

웨딩식장인 드래곤홀 입구야. 

This is Dragon Hall, the wedding venue which is a historical and beautiful building.

결혼식은 테마는 초록색이야. 계단을 지나서 이층으로 올라갔어. 

Theme color of the wedding is green.

양가 가족과 친구들을 포함한 하객들로 바글 바글했고 긍정적인 바이브가 모두의 기분을 들뜨게 했어. 참, 천정도 예쁘게 조그만 전구들로 장식했어. 내부 장식은 모두 시댁과 시누이 부부의 아이디어와 수작업 이었어. 어떤 사람들은 인부를 고용해서 결혼식 전반적인 작업을 하도록 하기도 해.

The venue was packed full of families and close friends and with jolly vibes.

The ceiling was beautifully decorated with small lights.

결혼식 순서가 상세히 적혀 있어. - 결혼식, 카나페, 저녁식사, 케익 커팅, 댄스, 야참, 그리고 자정에 시댁으로 가서 파티는 계속 될거라는.. 

Order of the day -- Party continues after midnight at Cereal House. Yeah!

이건 결혼 당사자들의 이름과 부모님들의 이름, 신랑 신부 들러리들 이름, 결혼식 중간 중간 글귀를 읽을 사람들의 이름등이 적혀 있어. 

시아버지가 시누이를 남편감에게 걸어서 데려다 주고 있어. 맘이 짠하드라.. 준일이 결혼할때 생각이 나서 그런가.. ㅋ 

My father in law walking my beautiful sis in law down the aisle. It was a very emotional moment for me. My eyes were welled up tears. I suddenly thought of my brother's wedding back in Korea.

짜잔~ 우리 시누이랑 신랑감. 

Ta-da! The beautiful man and wife to be!

결혼을 시켜줄수 있는 면허가 있는 사람들이 와서 둘이 정식으로 법적인 부부가 되었음을 선언해. 

그 장면은 엄숙해서 사진을 찍을 수가 없었어. 

Registrar then declared man and wife. No photos were allowed to be taken during the legal part of the ceremony. 

나랑 시누이랑~ Caroline and I together. 

그리고 나서 아래층으로 다시 내려가서 건물에 이어진 정원으로 햇살을 즐기며 온 새신랑 새신부와 하객들이 담소를 나누었어. 아래 사진에 초록색 드레스 입은 여자분들 보이지? 그분들이 신부 들러리들이야. 정원에서 있는 시간동안 카나페와 술이 생명선인양 지속적으로 공급되었어.

After this, we went downstairs so the newly wedded couple could take photos and chat with guests enjoying the sun. And of course, I must mention the lovely canapes and wine which were constantly supplied while we were in the garden.

사랑하는 엄마 아빠, 

지난 5월 24일에 시누이 결혼식 하고 나서 이제야 사진들 올리게 되네. 그날 일기 예보에 날씨 흐리고 비온다고 해서 조마조마 했었는데 다행히 아침에 조금 비오고 오후에는 따사로운 햇살이 들었었어.

My sister in law's wedding took place on 24 May at Dragon Hall in Norwich. We were worried as it was likely to be rainy and cloudy all day according to the weather forecast. But luckily the sky cleared up and the sun was shining brightly for the wedding ceremony.

어쨋든, 결혼식 전에 일단은 예쁜 청첩장 부터 받았어. 캐롤라인이 좋아하는 에메랄드 색으로 전체 결혼식 테마가 정해 졌구.

Anyway, we received this lovely invite about two years in advance so we could prepare ourselves for this day. The wedding's theme color was emerald green which is Caroline's favorite color..

시누이 결혼식은 드래곤 홀이라고 하는 노리치에서 유명한 행사장에서 치루기로 했어. 신부 고향에서 결혼식 치루는게 전통이라고 하네. 물론 요즘은 커플들이 개인 사정이나 취향에 따라 장소를 고르기도 하는 경우도 많다고 해. 

My sis in law's wedding was held in Dragon Hall which is a lovely event venue in the center of Norwich. Traditionally wedding ceremonies are held at bride's hometown. However, nowadays couples pick their wedding locations according to their preferences or personal circumstances.

우리 시부모님들은 결혼식 끝나고 나서 결혼식장에서 일차로 파티를 하고 남는 사람들(대부분 신랑 신부 친구들을 포함한 에너지가 아직도 많이 남은 사람들 이겠지.) 을 집으로 초대하기로 했어. 그래서 일단 술부터 사서 나르기 시작하셨어. ㅋ  아래는 다양한 에일들이야. 이외 에도 보드카, 위스키등 독주도 당연히 준비 하셨지. 이 결혼식 하나로 노리치 경제에 도움이 많이 되었을 거 같아.

My parents in law generously decided to invite guests who will still be full of energy after the wedding reception at Dragon Hall. So the first thing they did was ...to get the booze ready! Below pics show only the tip of iceberg. There was amazing variety of alcohol including spirits like vodka and whiskey. Norwich economy benefited a lot from this wedding for sure!

이 외에도, 많은 준비 과정이 있었어. 특히 시어머니가 자청하셔서 만들기로 하신 자이언트 결혼식 삼단케익은 준비 하는 기간만 해도 한두달 걸린거 같아. 레몬, 초컬릿, 그리고 빅토리아 스펀지 케익 테마로 세단을 만들었어. 두꺼운 케익틴을 구하는게 쉽지 않아서 각 단을 3층의 같은 크기의 케익을 쌓아서 만들었어. 다시말해 삼단케익을 만들기 위해서 아홉개의 케익을 만드신거지. 그리고 실전에 들어가기 전에 연습도 하셔야 했구. 결혼식 전 한두달 정도는 메일메일 케익을 먹은거 같어. 지금도 냉동실에 얼은 케익이 있어. 자꾸만 손이 가서 큰일이야. 삼단케익 사진은 나중에 올리도록 할게.

My mother in law took it upon herself to make a giant three tiered wedding cake. Each tier is made up of three equal sized individual cakes stacked on top of one another. The flavors included lemon, chocolate, and Victoria sponge. So it took 9 times of baking to complete the wedding cake and a lot of practice. There was cake in the house for 1~2 months before the wedding. I can tell you how much cake eating can be addictive especially when the cake is so yummy! We still have some frozen cake in the freezer. The picture of this cake will be shown at a later entry.

그리고 내가 자청한 유일안 나의 발자쥐는 아래 사진의 리본 아트. 리본으로 장미 만들어서 결혼식장 계단 하단부에 장식 했어. 나름 이쁘지? 요건 결혼식 전날 결혼식장 가서 한시간 반정도 걸려서 장식했어.

My only and volunteered job was to decorate the bottom of banisters with roses made of ribbon in emerald green and white. I had fun doing it and was happy to see my roses standing proud and strong. I went to the wedding venue the day before wedding to do this job. 

그리고 결혼식 전 몇주전부터 친척들이 노리치에 도착하고 대다수의 친구들과 친척들은 결혼식 전날이나 그전날 도착해서 호텔에 투숙 완료! 

Relatives and friends started arriving from a few weeks before the wedding and most of them arrived on the day before and checked in at their accommodations safely.

결혼식 전날에 친척들과 친구들이 펍에 모여서 한잔 했어. 시어머니 언니의 딸(사진 오늘쪽) 과 시어머니 언니의 아들의 와이프(중앙)과 함께 찰칵. 

Friends and relatives got together at a pub the day before wedding for a pint and I had good chats with my American families.
