사랑하는 엄마 아빠,
지난 토요일이 영국에서 해가 가장 긴 하지였어. 아래 사진들이 밤 10시에 찍은 사진들이야. 아직도 환하지? 한국에서는 동지와 하지 때 낮의 길이 차이가 많이 나지 안는 반면, 여기서는 그 차이가 놀랍게 크게 나. 처음에 영국에서 크리스마스를 맞이했던 때가 생각나네. 오후 3시쯤 되니까 암흑으로 둘러 쌓여 버려서 굉장히 놀랐었어.
Last Saturday was summer solstice. I took the pictures below at 10 pm and it is still light outside. In Korea, we do have summer solstice but the hours of daylight on summer solstice and winter solstice are not shockingly different. So when I first had my Christmas in the UK it was a big shock to me to see that it gets pitch dark at 3 pm!
여기서 일반인들이 따로 하지를 기리기 위한 행사를 하는건 아니고, 토속 신앙인(pagan) 들이나 드루이드교인들(Druids) 이 스톤헨지(솔즈베리 평원에 있는 고대 거석 기념물) 등을 방문 해서 춘하추동을 관련 축제를 한다고 하네. 재미있는 사진들이 있어서 올려봤어.
Most people do not seem to celebrate summer solstice except for Pagans and Druids who celebrate solstices and equinoxes at places like Stonehenge. I found some interesting pictures as following.
