Mother's Day & Father's Day in the UK & Parents Day in Korea - 영국 어머니의 날 & 아버지의 날 & 한국의 어버이날

사랑하는 엄마 아빠, 

우리나라에 어버이의 날이 있고, 영국에는 '어머니의 날'과 '아버지의 날'이 따로 구분 되어 있어. 

We have 'Parents' Day' in Korea which can be explained as the combination of 'Mother's Day' and 'Father's Day' in the UK. 

어렸을 때 어버이 날이라고 학교에서 카네이션 만들어서 엄마 아빠 가슴께에 달아주던게 생각나네. 언니랑, 쌍둥이 동생 둘이랑 나 까지 해서 도합 4개씩의 카네이션을 달고 길에 나가면 지나가던 부러워하던 이웃들이 생생히 생각나. 

I remember making paper carnations for my parents as a child at school and bring them home to pin them on my parents tops. They used to keep them on all day.(How sweet of them!) They looked something like pics below. On Parents Day, my parents would have four carnations each from my twin brothers(x2), my sister(x1) and myself. Our neighbors with only child used to be quite jealous of them! 

Parents Day in Korea is always on the 8th of May. 

여기서는 어머니의 날이 사순절(기독교인들이 예수의 고행을 기리는, 성회 수요일(Ash Wednesday)부터 부활절 일요일(Easter) 전날까지의 40일간)의 네번째 네번째 일요일이야. 날짜는 매년 조금씩 변하겠지? 최소 16세기 이후부터 영국에서 이날을 기념해 왔다고 해. 보통 3월 중순에서 4월 초 경 정도야. 카드와 선물을 어머니께 드리면서 존경을 표시하는 날이라고 해.

Mother's Day is always the fourth Sunday of Lent. It is known to have been celebrated at least since the 16th century. It is a day to honor mothers typically by giving them cards and gifts.

영국의 아버지의 날은 6월의 세번째 일요일이야. 아버지의 날은 미국에서 건너온 개념이라고 해. 미국에서는 1910년 이후로 아버지의 날을 6월달에 기념해 왔다고 하네. 기념 방식은 어머니의 날과 비슷하게 하게 카드와 선물을 아버지께 드려. 

Father' Day in the UK is held on the 3rd Sunday of June. It is known to have been introduced from the United States. In the US, it has been celebrated in June since 1910. It is celebrated in a similar way as Mother's day with cards and gifts.
