영국 노리치 하늘(Norwich Gal)

사랑하는 엄마 아빠, 

나는 별로 한 것도 없지만 결혼식 치르고 나니까 너무 피곤하더라. 그래서 크리스랑 별장에 며칠 쉬러 갔어. 

We decided to go away for a few days after the wedding to my parents in law's cottage in Wells-next-the-sea.

도착한 날 날씨가 좋아서 홀큼 공원으로 향했어. 

It was sunny and hot on the day we arrived there so we went for a long walk to Holkham Hall.

다른 사람들도 같은 생각 이었나봐. 사람들이 많이 있더라구. I guess others thought the same. 

탁 트인 공간을 보면 마음에 왠지모를 평화가 오는거 같어. Somehow open space brings me some kind of peace in mind. 

홀큼영지에 있는 카페 입구야. 행사때 사용될 법한 마차가 세워져 있더라구. 이런 날씨에도 잘 어울리고 이 자리에도 너무 잘 어울리는거 같어.

There was this red wagon which I think is used for events. It goes so well with this kind of weather in this specific spot of the cafe.

따뜻한 햇살을 즐기는 사람들. People enjoying the sunshine.

카페에 들어가서 뭐 먹을까 고민을 많이 했어. 간단하고 가볍게 먹을거라고 이미 정했지만 맛있는거 보니까 다 먹고 싶더라구. 

We were in agony to decide what to eat!  Although we knew we would have something simple to share seeing tasty things made it very difficult for us to stay determined. 

달달한걸 먹을지...Should we eat something sweet?

끼니가 될만한걸 먹을까? Something savory with soup? 

소세지도 있고..각종 파이들도 있고.. There were tasty sausages, rolls, and pies..

그냥 원래 대로 간단히 먹기로 했어. 크림 티(Cream Tea) 라고 스콘과 크림 그리고 차한잔. 

We decided to stick to our plan and share a Cream Tea set.

첫날은 날씨가 넘 좋아서 자전거 타고 홀큼 공원을 한바퀴 돌았어. 반나절 일정 잡고 가니깐 딱 좋더라구. 

It was sunny and lovely there so we decided to hire bikes for two hours to cycle around Holkham Hall.

참, 아래 건물 중앙 왼쪽 하단에 보면 창문 하나가 막혀있지? 재미있는 역사, 옛날에(정확한 시기는 모르겠고), 집의 창문의 숫자에 따라 세금을 징수한 적이 있어서 세금 덜 낼려구 저렇게 창문을 막아 버린 집들이 간혹 보인다고 하네.

Oh, interesting piece of history - do you see a window on the bottom left is blocked? I am not sure exactly which period this happened, but they used to impose tax on houses based on the number of windows. So some people blocked some of their windows to pay less tax. 

어쨋든, 차한잔 하고 자전거를 빌려서 벽으로 나뉘어진 정원(Walled Garden) 으로 향했어.

Anyway, after a cuppa we headed to Walled Garden.

지금 공사 중이라 조금 허전한 느낌은 들더라. 

It was under construction so it looked a bit bare.

지도에서 보다시피 벽으로 정원이 나뉘어져 있어서 이름이 '벽으로 나뉘어진 정원' 이야. 

As lots are parted by walls, it is called "Walled Garden".

예쁜 꽃들을 보니 마음이 정화 되는듯.. Seeing beautiful flowers purified my mind..only for a bit!

여기는 포도밭. 지금은 황량하지만 2년 정도 후면 포도덩굴이 자라나서 포도밭 처럼 보일거래. 

Vineyard. This looks bare now but it will grow to be a proper vineyard in a couple of years.

정원을 간단히 구경하고 다시 나와서 자전거에 올라 탔어. 멀리서 보이는 홀큼홀이 나에게 오라고 손짓 하는거 같았어. 

We got back on our bikes to go back toward Holkham Hall and it felt like the hall in the distance was waving at me to come!

여기가 사유지라니.. 불공평해 --; ..

다시 돌아 왔어. 

자전거를 돌려주고, 나가는 길을 찾다가..개선문 같은 곳을 지났어. 

After returning the bikes, we started making our way back out the park and approached a gate which resembled triumphal arch(maybe only in my mind). 

기이하게 생긴 나무들도 지나고..이상한 동물들 울음소리가 들리기 시작해서 무서워 지기 시작하더라구. 길을 잃은데다가 어두워 지기 시작했거든.

We passed these odd looking trees and heard some unknown animals screaming/ crying nearby. I was getting a bit anxious as it looked like we were lost and we did not know and it was getting dark.  

등골이 오싹한 시간들이 지나서 겨우 외부로 통하는 출구를 찾았고..높은 담장을 넘어서 겨우 탈출 성공! 굉장한 모험을 한것 같아 나름 재미 있었던 것 같어. 

It gives me the shivers when I think about it but I must admit it was somewhat adventurous and having to climb over a fence was the climax of it all. 

4일 정도 별장에 있었는데 나머지 날들은 그냥 쌀쌀하고 비도 좀 오고 해서 푸욱 쉬다가 왔어~. 

The rest of our stay there involved lots of cooking and rain. So we stayed in the house a lot which was still very nice.
